Early in the Summer of 2017, Buctel was approached by a long-time client to polish a 24’ x 20’ water-jet cut stainless steel figure, made of up 9 pieces, that would make up the face of the Honorable Martin Luther King Jr. Over the course of 2 weeks, the tribute to the famous Civil Rights leader was completed and shipped off to its final destination, a recreational facility in the South.
At 24 feet, the commemorative unit was commissioned to be polished to a uniform #4 satin brush finish with a vertical grain. Our client reserved tabs on each end so that our team can install a temporary posting across the figure accordingly to ensure undeviating grain lines during the polishing process.
The grain was established, unobtrusive, and consistent. Once the face was completed, the edges were satin ground and polished.
